But what if I told you that beyond the captivating melodies, there lies a hidden gem—The 78 Fraser Highlanders youth bagpipe band which is now into its 45th season, the band not only shares the gift of music but also offers free training in learning bagpipes, drums, highland dancing, history, musketry and teaches invaluable leadership skills to its members? Join us as we explore the story of this remarkable group and the transformative impact they're having on the lives of young musicians.

Free Training for All

One of the most remarkable aspects of this youth bagpipe band is their commitment to offering free training. Recognizing that the cost of bagpipe lessons can be a barrier for many young aspiring musicians, Capt. Rod McLeod and his team provide high-quality instruction without charging a dime. This inclusivity ensures that talented individuals from all backgrounds have the opportunity to learn and master the art of bagpiping and drumming.

Teaching Leadership Skills

Beyond honing their musical talents, members of the youth bagpipe band also receive invaluable lessons in leadership. The band believes that instilling leadership skills in young individuals is crucial for their personal growth and development. Through various activities such as public speaking and summer youth employment, these young musicians not only become skilled bagpipers but also responsible, confident leaders in their own right.
